About 1sparklleslp

I am a school-based speech-language pathologist and co-creator of SPARKLLE, SPeaking About Remarkable Kids Learning Language Everyday. My love of phonology, with the goal of maximizing progress during preschool years, was inspiration for developing this program along with my wonderful friend and colleague (and likely the smartest person I know).  I could not think of a better way to enter the blog world by sharing my experience with this approach and offering knowledge to help children learn language everyday.  currently not servicing the preschool population

My other "current" professional interests include pragmatic language and executive functioning.  "Current" personal interests include anything with my family, technology, Disney, creating and organizing.  The word "current" is used because, well, I change my mind impulsively, so don't be surprised if I have a new interest or idea very soon!  I have so much to learn and enjoy analyzing new ideas, tips, and tricks.  Mathematical logical thinking is a strength, writing is not; however, something I wish to strengthen and what better avenue!

I truly thank you for taking a look around.  I have enjoyed my nightly dose of (obsession with) many blogs and I am anxious to give this new impulse a try!  You can contact me at 1sparklleslp@gmail.com

While I am not currently servicing the preschool population, SPeaking About Remarkable Kids Learning Language Everyday is something I strive to do in my current setting using various resources and techniques, which I intend to continue to share.

About 2sparklleslp...

Like my favorite colleague above whom I will affectionately refer to as 1spark, I too am a school-based speech-language pathologist and co-creator of SPARKLLE which was founded because "necessity is the mother of invention"  - we were no exception!  At that time, I was working primarily with elementary-age kids, but we had an overflow of preschoolers who needed itinerant-based speech-language therapy.  After marching preschooler after preschooler down to my therapy closet, oops, I meant "room", watching them sit neck-high at my table, and spin spinners with their tiny fingers, I knew there had to be a better way.  Being a graduate student whose schooling was funded by a grant serving the population of birth to age 3 years,I had worked in collaboration in a classroom setting with another graduate student working toward a Master's degree in special education.  What would happen if 2 SLPs collaborated together in serving preschool ages 3 - 5?  Being a strong believer in divine intervention, I teamed up with 1spark and over 2 years of pitching our idea, it finally took.  You couldn't ask for a better partner in 1spark because  all it takes is me saying, "I was thinking about..." and she is up for the challenge before I even realize we are near the start line.  (She did start this blog didn't she?). She is a self-starter and I am convinced if there were a Last SLP Standing competition, she would take the honors!

Professionally, my areas of interest include articulation and phonology, selective mutism, and pragmatics (use of language socially and functionally).  Personally, I love spending time with my family (biological and faith-based), doing Tae Kwon Do, reading, cheering on my kids in sports/gymnastics/dance, watching not-so-dark TV cop/law shows and comedies,

and lying around with my weimaraner.  Doing a blog is totally new to me and I must say, without 1spark pulling me in at this date, I probably would've been first blogging about my favorite denture adhesive in 2049!  I hope you enjoy following along with us!  Feel free to email me at 2sparklleslp@gmail.com
